As I write to you today, I am sitting in the summer kitchen of our soon-to-be new home in the medieval village of Tufillo. I love my pack and have fiddled with it until I have the straps just right for this load of stuff Ill be carrying. We had space to accommodate 6 guests, but changed the setup to only allow up to 4 guests the following season. Admittedly, we were exhausted at this point.. the 6 days rushing up to us as we toured the cathedral. It has virtually no rainfall and a rustic, easygoing lifestyle. We were ready for some fun! An old window that connected a hallway to the bathroom had to be removed and the opening blocked in and tiled over. Todays tappa was a day for wide open spaces and spectacular views. It has truly been our home for these past 4 years and we will miss so much about it; friends made, mountains hiked, enjoying the views from our home, and just the pure essence of living in this mountain town in Abruzzo. So in this post, I wish to share some of the different facets of preparation; physical fitness, safety, gear, reservations, etc. The weather has been clear (thankfully) and hot so spending most of the day on a lovely and well-shaded wooded trail was a blessing and a pleasure.
